وذكر بوتين، خلال المؤتمر الصحفي الذي عقب قمة "رابطة الدول المستقلة" في كازاخستان، أن الإمارات مستعدة لتولي دور الوسيط في أوكرانيا، لافتا إلى أن رئيس الإمارات، الشيخ محمد بن زايد، يقوم بذلك.
وأضاف أنه "منفتح" على المفاوضات مع كييف وعلى وساطة دول مثل الإمارات العربية المتحدة أو تركيا.
وكان رئيس دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة عقد، يوم الثلاثاء في مدينة سانت بطرسبرغ، جلسة مباحثات مع نظيره الروسي، تناولت العلاقات الثنائية، وآخر التطورات الإقليمية والدولية.
وقال الشيخ محمد بن زايد، على تويتر بعد اللقاء: "التقيت الرئيس الروسي فلاديمير بوتين في سانت بطرسبورغ.. ناقشنا عدداً من القضايا والتطورات محل الاهتمام المشترك وفي مقدمتها مستجدات الأزمة الأوكرانية وأهمية دعم الجهود الدبلوماسية التي تخدم جميع الأطراف وتحقق السلام والاستقرار في العالم".
بدوره، ثمن الرئيس الروسي دور دولة الإمارات المهم في المنطقة، مؤكدا أن موسكو تسعى لتحقيق الاستقرار في أسواق الطاقة العالمية.
وقالت وكالة أنباء الإمارات إن دولة الإمارات قامت بدور هام في عملية تبادل الأسرى بين روسيا وأوكرانيا. وفي هذا الصدد أكد بوتين أن "الجانب الروسي يقدر هذه الجهود التي تقوم بها دولة الإمارات والتي أكدت استعدادها لمواصلة جهود الوساطة".
وكانت وزارة الخارجية الإماراتية قد أعلنت، مساء الاثنين، أن زيارة الشيخ محمد بن زايد إلى روسيا "تأتي في إطار سعي دولة الإمارات المستمر للإسهام في تحقيق الأمن والاستقرار بالمنطقة والعالم، وتعزيز التعاون المثمر والبنّاء مع القوى الإقليمية والدولية، والتواصل مع كافة الأطراف المعنية في الأزمة بأوكرانيا للمساعدة في التوصل إلى حلول سياسية فاعلة".
