Wondering what to do during the spring holidays in Manchester? Families with children of all ages can enjoy a creative and educational family adventure this Easter at the People’s History Museum, with exhibitions and activities including the Make your Mark Easter Banner Bonanza, Banner Bingo and the Little Suffragette’s Trail.

First up, explore the temporary Banner Bonanza exhibition, where you can explore colourful banners showcasing groundbreaking historic and contemporary activism Discover the fascinating stories behind these stunning banners, each representing the struggles and triumphs of those who fought for the rights we have today. From the iconic banners of trade unions in the 1900s, to the symbols of modern activist movements, there’s something to inspire visitors of all ages.

Experience history come alive in this remarkable exhibition, as you celebrate the power of protest and explore the journey of individuals from our past, united by their fight for justice and equality.

While you’re at the museum, have a game of Banner Bingo, a fun, family friendly version of the well-known game, all about exploring a museum. Collect your Banner Bingo card from the information desk, and it’s time to play. This special version of Bingo asks you to find different images featured in banners found throughout the museum’s two main galleries and the 2024 Banner Exhibition. And to top it off, you get a small prize for taking part.

After all the banner fun, bring your little suffragettes for an interactive adventure at the Suffragette’s Trail. Be taken on a special journey, packed with inspiring stories of women who have campaigned for equality throughout history, such as the brave women of Peterloo, the fearless Pankhursts and women in the present, too.

There’ll be a chance to get creative and make your own badge to take home, based on some of the amazing things you’ve learned throughout the trail. This family-friendly activity is perfect for children ages 5 to 12.

This is a drop-in activity, so feel free to join any time during opening hours. And if you have older visitors (over 12) with you, take a look at the Radical Women Trail for a more intensive dive into the history of women’s activism.

After all the exploring you may be a little bit peckish! Enjoy a delicious lunch at Open Kitchen, where you can choose from a variety of options including sandwiches, pasta, and pizza starting from just £3.50.

Easter at the People’s History Museum promises a day of learning, fun, and tasty treats for the whole family, and is the ideal trip out for a rainy day, which is quite likely in Manchester…!

Little Suffragettes Trail is open from Thursday 1 February 2024 to Monday 30 December 2024, and the Banner Bonanza and Banner Bingo are open throughout Easter.
