The Department of Social Services in Sharjah provides a range of services to senior citizens affiliated with it, including home care, where the number of those affiliated with the department has reached more than 4127 members. Kholoud Abdullah Al Ali, Director of the Elderly Services Center of the Department of Social Services in Sharjah, said: The Department, through its mission, strives to provide curative, preventive and developmental social services in the areas of safety, care, protection and rehabilitation for individuals, families and groups with special social conditions, and study social problems to find solutions and decision-making as a contribution to the sustainable development process of society in the Emirate of Sharjah.
She pointed out that home care was established in 2003 to provide social, health, psychological and rehabilitative services to the elderly and disabled while they are in their homes. A supportive services unit that offers rehabilitation programs as well as training programs for those responsible for methods and means of health care and care to ensure their health stability and provide home nursing care (Mercy), private transport services for bedridden and medical needs of people with limited income.
The department also provides its services to the elderly through Al-Asala clubs to provide daytime social, health and recreational services to the elderly to achieve social integration, through a program and vital activities that ensure their interaction with the community and its members.
Kholoud Al Ali confirmed that the center processed approximately 837 requests for home care for the benefit of senior citizens, the disabled, the mentally ill and their families in the homes of Sharjah, Khorfakkan, Dibba Al-Hisn and Kalba, in addition to Al Hamriyah, Al Dhaid, Al Madam and Al Bataeh. Kholoud Al Ali stated that through home care, the department provided home physiotherapy for those whose necessary needs and continuity of treatment sessions require in accordance with the health and precautionary procedures followed and recommended by the doctor, and pointed out that the department has allocated 35 mobile units to make home visits in cases registered in a service center Elderly parents, the elderly, bedridden, psychiatric patients and people with disabilities, providing health services and dispensing medicine.
