A PS5 with an improved AMD chip could launch as early as next year

Months after it was released, Sony’s PlayStation 5 is still one of the most sought-after consoles at the moment. Here in the UAE, units are also scarce and if you want to purchase one just in time for Eid you’ll likely be buying it at an inflated price from scalpers or buy it as a bundle with a higher price.

Despite these hurdles, there is word that Sony is already prepping for the next version of the PS5 which is now said to feature the new version of the AMD Zen 2 processor that is manufactured with the 6nm process. To compare, the current PS5 uses a 7nm process.

This minor hardware revision means that there could be a slight performance gain for the console along with improved power efficiency. While this may be barely noticeable when you play games, it could make production cheaper. This can also translate to a slimmer PS5 with a cheaper price.

It was also highlighted those console revisions are common among consoles to help improve design and functionality. Sony has been doing this with previous versions of the PlayStation consoles. With the PS5, it’s clear that not everyone is loving the design, considering its size – but that could change soon as better parts are made which could see the release of a slimmer and smaller version of the PS5.

But if you are looking forward to a more powerful PS5 Pro, don’t expect it to release until a few years later. Much like the PS4 Pro, the PS5 Pro could be released mid-cycle so expect a few more years of waiting.
