For decades, Scott Brown has owned a junkyard spread across 5 acres in the Dunbar community. He’s looking to retire, and he has connected with a developer to transform the junkyard into an affordable housing project.
Cincinnati-based Megen Development has been in Fort Myers this week exploring the opportunity. It’s looking to build 106 affordable housing units on the land, which is on the southeast corner of Edison Avenue and Henderson Avenue in Fort Myers.
“Scott Brown’s made his commitment to the neighborhood that when it’s time for him to move on, his property will become something that will benefit the neighborhood,” said attorney Sawyer Smith, who is representing both parties. “There was a time that this was an appropriate place for his business. Mr. Brown is working with Megen Development to bring an affordable housing complex as a benefit to the community.”
