Afrojack sat down with RADIO.COM’s Firelane to share details about how he’s been creating this year and shares what it’s been like to reignite his Kapuchon project.

After returning from a five-week stint in Dubai, the renowned DJ is back in his Belgium-based castle he explains to Firelane’s Madison Orange. The artist who has been DJing for 15 years tells us that he is a citizen of the world. Defining where he lives is “difficult” because his career has taken him around the globe. However, he shares that he’s always had difficulty finding a house in Los Angeles. “I tried to buy a house in LA like eight times,” laughs Afrojack.

When discussing his most recent projects Afrojack delves into releasing new music under his alias, Kapuchon, which has been on hiatus for a decade. Last month, Afrojack released “10 Years Later” under the Kapuchon project as way to reignite the old alias and create music that pulls in influence from all forms of house music, from acid house to tech house, to “Chicago funk s***” as the DJ puts it.

“People have always been like you can’t play that many genres in one set,” explains Afrojack. Kapuchon is the response to people’s misunderstanding of how all forms of house music can meld together and Afrojack’s way of saying, “‘no, yes I can!’”

During his most recent live stream set the DJ set out to represent Kapuchon and show his fans his new all-inclusive endeavors. He explains, “for me this was like the most challenging thing I ever had to do because I had to do a Kapuchon set and represent Kapuchon to people. What is Kapuchon? Well, it’s kind of like everything I like,” says the “What Are We Waiting For?” artist. The Rotterdam-based livestream set is featured on Kapuchon’s Youtube.

Kapuchon is also Afrojack’s record label. “It’s just the vehicle to put out the music,” shares the DJ. He also tells us, “The whole thing about Kapuchon is about going back to the roots, not working with big budgets, not using big featurings, not pushing for chart success, just doing music and making relationships with people through music.”
