Area high school art featured a ‘Spring Forward 2024’ exhibition in Carson City, reception Wednesday

Forty students from Carson, Dayton, Douglas, and Whittell high schools have their work in the “Spring Forward 2024” art exhibition at the Brick. This delightful exhibit presents an array of imaginative projects based on students’ years of classroom study and their amazing craftsmanship.

“Spring Forward 2024”, a Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) student show, is in the Community Development Building (the Brick), 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City, now through May 23, 2024. The Initiative will host a reception for the students on Wednesday, April 10, 5-6:30pm. The Brick is open to the public, M-F, 8am – noon, 1-4pm. An exhibition video tour with artists’ interviews will be online soon.

Spring Forward 2024, includes a variety of art media including ceramics, drawing, painting, and mixed media pieces.

Whittell High School’s participating students are Faith Goldstein, Mara Greene, Ella Martin, and Ayla Rodrigues. They worked with teacher Paul Lorion.

Participating students from Dayton High include Haley Drews, Yarah Funes-Cruz, Leanna Grahmann, Sidney Malone, Joslyn McBroome, Diane Davolos Salazar, and Gisela Gonzalez Uribe who all studied art with teacher Malaynia Wick.

Douglas High’s students include Sam Acosta-Chavez, Sierra Adie, Elizabeth Gneiting, Carrera Jones, Briana Leon-Loayza, Grace McGuffin, Kylie Morgan, Sydney Passink, Jiovanna Shuman, Harley Smith, Monserrat Virgen, and Ava Wilson. Their teachers are Kelley Yost and Zoe Shorten.

Carson High’s participating students are Victoria Dao, Lila Downs, Maritza Lopez Garcia, Makayla Halverson, Maggie King, Daniela Alvarez Martinez, Ximena Villegas Martinez, Izabell McCullen, Maverick Morgan, Riley Pulver, Bailey Rasner, Madeline Roberts, Keyonni Scott, Sandra Sullivan, Cynthia Vargas, Mackenzie Wagner, Lacey Williams, and Audrey Wood. These students worked with teachers Patricia Ababio, Alisa Kuniya, Karen McCraw, and Matt Theilen.

The Initiative will announce its $500 Aim scholarship award at the artists’ reception on April 10. Graduating seniors who will continue their education in the fall at a college or a technical school qualify. Thank you to our generous donor for supporting this scholarship and CCAI.
