UAE – Mubasher: The reactor of Unit 1 of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant has achieved 80% of its rated capacity power, Nawah Energy Company (Nawah) announced on Wednesday.

This step is part of the Power Ascension Testing (PAT), being conducted at the Unit 1 reactor to slowly raise its power capacity while collecting data and monitoring control and safety systems.

The PAT is being conducted under the supervision of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), which has carried out over 280 inspections since the start of Barakah’s development.

Nawah’s operations team at Unit 1 seeks to raise the plant’s electricity production to 100%, marking the final stage of PAT which will be followed by the shutdown of the reactor to commence a Check Outage.

Nawah was set up in 2016 after a joint venture agreement had been inked between the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) to operate and maintain Units 1 to 4 at the Barakah Plant.
