Dubai: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has organised a virtual orientation session to introduce its employees to the Innovation Fund Programme and encourage them to innovate in different ways. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said that DEWA encourages innovation and creativity among its employees and all society by launching projects and initiatives to enable them to effectively participate in anticipating and shaping a sustainable future. DEWA adopts innovation as a key pillar of its work and corporate approach. It moves steadily towards the next 50 years to achieve the UAE Centennial objectives to make the UAE the world’s leading nation by 2071.

“DEWA provides its employees, Dubai residents, and interested parties around the world, the opportunity to present innovative ideas, development notes and feedback that would make Dubai the smartest and most developed city in the world. These ideas would ensure the constant development of DEWA and achieve its developmental plans as well as enhance its leadership and excellence as one of the best utilities worldwide in all areas. DEWA employs innovation and Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies. It constantly develops its digital and technical infrastructure to support the Dubai 10X initiative, which propel Dubai into the future and make it 10 years ahead of other cities through government innovation as well as achieve DEWA’s vision to become a globally leading sustainable innovative corporation,” added Al Tayer.

The Innovation Fund Programme supports innovative ideas by DEWA employees across all divisions. It enables them to turn their ideas into pilot models and implement them. DEWA approved 21 ideas so far through the programme, 13 of which have been implemented. These include ‘smart closets,’ ‘Mirzab Pipes,’ and the ‘inspector robot.’ The programme is an addition to DEWA’s Afkari (My Idea) portal, an internal online platform to encourage creativity and innovation in the work environment. It is the first of its kind in the Government of Dubai and has provided a central repository to manage innovation at DEWA. In 2020, DEWA approved some 1,500 ideas presented by its customers and employees through suggestions and ideas they

presented on the Afkari platform, the Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Majlis, and the Unified Suggestions Portal of Dubai Government.
