Don’t dine out without reading these new rules for restaurants

New measures have been placed to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community. The Food Safety Department of Dubai Municipality has published new social distancing requirements when dining-in. They have stated a list for individuals dining in from different families and another for individuals dining in from the same family – see further details below.

Distancing requirements for individuals from different families dining together:

• Maintain social distancing of 2 metres at all times between any two individuals
• Chair to chair distance must be 2 metres or above when seated
• In large tables, create barriers after every four customers
• Physical barriers can be used to prevent droplet spread as an alternative to social distancing.
• Physical barriers must be higher than the head of the person when seated and cover the full torso.
• Temporary barriers should be made of a suitable material such as Plexiglas (acrylic). The barrier should not be perforated and must have a plain surface that is easy to clean and disinfect.

Distancing requirements for individuals from the same family dining together:

• Maintain social distancing of 2 metres at all times between any two individuals if they are from different families.
• Social distancing requirements do not apply to members from the same family. However, there should not be any crowding.
• Chair to chair distance must be 2 metres or above when seated
• In large tables, create barriers after every five customers
• Physical barriers can be used to prevent droplet spread as an alternative to social distancing.
• Physical barriers must be higher than the head of the person when seated and cover the full torso.
• Temporary barriers should be made of a suitable material such as plexiglass (acrylic). The barrier should not be perforated and must have a plain surface that is easy to clean and disinfect.
