Dubai Aerospace Enterprise announced on Tuesday that it had ordered 15 Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets for $1.8bn.
The order from one of the world’s biggest leasing companies revealed confidence in the narrow-body jet’s return to flight worthiness following an almost two-year ban due to safety concerns.
That model of jets was grounded globally after a fault in the software was found. The error in the aircraft’s computer was linked to two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019.
Boeing has been working with regulators to fix the problems with the software since the grounding.
The United Arab Emirates lifted the ban on the jet model this year.
“We are confident in the success of these aircraft as domestic and regional air travel is seeing strong signs of recovery,” DAE CEO Firoz Tarapore said in a statement.
