Emirates has released a virtual reality app that allows users to sample the company’s products from the comfort of their own homes.

The Emirates Oculus VR software was developed in collaboration with Renacen and is available for Oculus Rift users through emirates.com, the Emirates app, and the Oculus Store.

Customers may tour the Emirates A380’s Economy, Business, and First Class cabins, as well as the Onboard Lounge and Shower Spa, view their preferred seat, and even look around the cockpit.

The experience allows passengers to “pick up” goods from the Onboard Lounge, “switch on” the shower in the Shower Spa, and “shut” the private apartment doors behind them, according to Emirates.

The airline said it is already working on a new version of the app that will include its Premium Economy cabin and the latest A380 aircraft interiors, as well as the option to browse locations, choose a cabin, and book and pay for Emirates flights directly from the platform in the future.

The app, according to the airline, is the next step in its ambitious strategy to use virtual reality to reach and engage audiences all around the world.

Emirates’ divisional senior vice president for corporate communications, marketing, and brand, Boutros Boutros, stated:

“Emirates aims to provide innovative and outstanding customer experiences whether onboard, on the ground, or in the digital space. “In 2018, we were the world’s first airline to introduce advanced web VR technology on our digital platforms, offering our customers an immersive opportunity to learn about the fantastic Emirates experience that awaited them before they stepped on board.

“We’ve continued to invest and develop that experience, and today we are delighted to be the first airline to launch a fully-fledged Oculus VR app.”

Boutros added: “This initiative expands our global reach and ability to engage with our audiences across digital platforms. It is also particularly relevant right now, as many people have not traveled for a while due to the pandemic, and are seeking inspiration and researching and rediscovering their flight options.”
