ABU DHABI, 11 June / WAM / The General Secretariat of the Khalifa Award for Education has confirmed that protecting the environment and conserving natural and natural resources has been a fundamental pillar of the idea of ​​rational leadership since the beginning of the trade union march it landed succeeded in leading the indicators of international competitiveness in environmental issues, biodiversity and the sustainability of natural resources for future generations.

She pointed out that Emirati’s education system has made a positive contribution to building a distinguished knowledge content for young people and students, through which it increases the importance of the environment and the human role in preserving it, rationalizing the consumption of natural resources, in addition. to achieve the desired sustainability in wildlife and biodiversity in different parts of the country.

This was done during a dialogue session organized by the Secretariat of the Khalifa Award for Education on the occasion of World Environment Day, entitled “The Role of Educational Curricula in Enhancing Environmental Awareness”, in the presence of Amal Al-Afifi, Secretary General of the Ibrahim Award. executive committee.

Amal Al-Afifi stressed that the environmental axis and the sustainability of wild and natural life is one of the foundations on which the Khalifa Educational Award is based in spreading a culture of expertise in the field of education and academia, as the award made the environment and the sustainability axis one of the key elements in highlighting the excellence of the works nominated for the award in its various sessions, in a way that encourages staff in the field of education, both university and pre-university, to launch initiatives and projects that consolidates the position of the environment in the thoughts and feelings of young people and students.

Hamid Ibrahim, for his part, said that the Ministry of Education has given the environmental issue all the attention in its various sectors, whether in curricula, activities, events and competitions, as it presents to the students of the various academic levels to introduce the elements of the local environment. and the mechanisms for protecting it, conserving wildlife and conserving biodiversity on land, at sea and in the air.

Engineer Ahmed Jamal Al-Sufi stressed that the forward-looking vision of wise leadership made the United Arab Emirates one of the leading models locally, regionally and internationally in the field of environmental protection. Development of modern curricula that play a fundamental role in consolidating environmental awareness and sustainability for all students in different academic tracks and specialized academies.

He highlighted the importance of the ministry’s efforts through curriculum development focusing on this vital area in many respects in collaboration with various government and international agencies, including UNESCO and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), in line with the objectives of sustainable development, the state’s directions, its national agenda and the objectives of the world climate conference COP.28, which will host the UAE by the year 2023.

Al-Sufi pointed to a number of initiatives launched by the Ministry in this regard, including, but not limited to, the introduction of the environmental health and safety specialty within the track used in the Emirati School, the establishment of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the establishment of the Academy of Food Science and Safety, and the inclusion of curricula for environmental topics and themes in technology subjects in addition to the topics The environment in the cornerstone / scientific research / and the inclusion of standards and principles for sustainability and environmental education in scientific curricula and development of uniform standard framework for sustainability.

Al-Sufi pointed out that the process of developing curricula continues in accordance with the directives of our wise leadership in raising the status of the environment and the leadership of the United Arab Emirates in this regard, based on the principles of the 50th anniversary document and it has a great zeal to continue its efforts for sustainability and expertise in environmental issues.
