Galaxy S21 June Update Rolling Out Widely, Fixes Camera Lag Issues

Samsung started rolling out the June 2021 Android security patch to the Galaxy S21 series last week. The update was initially released in the company’s home country South Korea. Now, according to SamMobile, international variants of the phone are picking up the new update as well. As of this writing, the update is rolling out for the Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra in the UAE. It should reach many other markets over the course of this week.

When the June security update started rolling out for the Galaxy S21 series in South Korea last week, it was unclear if it brings anything else apart from the latest security fixes. But, it turns out, the latest update is quite an important one. No, not because it fixes any major security vulnerability. In fact, we don’t even know what security vulnerabilities have been fixed with this month’s patch. Google has yet to publish the new security bulletin.

Instead, the June update contains a fix for the lag issues in the Galaxy S21 phones’ camera app. Over the past few weeks, many users have reported experiencing crazy stutter and lag with the Galaxy S21 camera. Zooming in/out or switching the lenses would take an enormous amount of time, enough to miss out on that perfect moment you wanted to capture. The latest update now fixes that, Samsung claims.

According to the official statement, put on the Samsung Members community forums by a moderator, the issues occur when there is “insufficient memory or computational resources in a specific path including portrait mode”. But it’s not limited to portrait mode as users reported seeing similar issues in landscape mode as well.

Either way, the June security update should fix it. What remains to be seen is whether the issues are completely gone or there’s still some stutter or lag. It should be clear once more people install the new firmware.

The June 2021 Android security patch for the Galaxy S21 series is rolling out internationally with firmware version G99xBXXU3AUE8. As said before, it’s currently available over the air (OTA) to users in the UAE. However, it should now be only a matter of time before the update hits the Galaxy S21 phones in other regions as well.
