Galaxy S22 Series Is Already Receiving A Software Update

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series is yet to go on general sale. That begins tomorrow, February 25. But the new Samsung flagships are already getting their first software update.

As of this writing, the first software update for the Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra is rolling out in a handful of countries in Asia and Africa, including Egypt, Afghanistan, and the UAE. The OTA (over the air) rollout should soon cross borders in other regions as well. If you’re one of the very few people globally currently holding a Galaxy S22 phone, you can be on the lookout for an update with firmware version S90xEXXU1AVB3 in the coming days.

This update introduces the February 2022 Android security patch to the latest Samsung flagships. The Korean firm recently confirmed that the new SMR (security maintenance release) contains fixes for over 60 vulnerabilities. These include patches from Google as well.

It’s unclear if the Galaxy S22 trio are receiving anything else apart from the new SMR. Perhaps fixes for the weird display bug on the Exynos 2200-powered Galaxy S22 Ultra. Many early adopters of the devices have been complaining of a pixelated horizontal line in the top half of the display. It’s a software bug that can be reproduced easily. There’s a temporary workaround to it but Samsung had promised to fix the issue “soon”. We hope this update gets rid of it. Unfortunately, we can’t confirm that just yet.

Early software updates also usually bring a lot of optimizations, particularly for cameras. We will have to wait for confirmation about whether the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra are picking up anything as such with this release. We will keep you posted accordingly.

Many Galaxy S22 buyers will have a software update out of the box

As said before, the Galaxy S22 series is still in the pre-order period, at least for one more day. While some pre-order customers have already received their units, some others are still waiting. Well, that waiting time could be way longer if you’re looking to buy certain color and storage variants of the new Samsung flagships.

Nonetheless, with Samsung having already released the first software update to the devices, many buyers will have one available out of the box. As SamMobile notes, who first reported this rollout, the Galaxy S22 trio could come with the February patch installed in some regions.
