The Gwangju Biennale, the reigning champ in Asia’s art festival category, has announced the lineup for its 2024 edition set to debut in South Korea on September 7th. Curated by Nicolas Bourriaud, renowned for his relational aesthetics theory, the exhibition explores the role of sound in shaping contemporary life.

This 15th edition aims to engage audiences with sound’s transformative potential, inviting contemplation on its cultural and social implications. Titled Pansori: A Soundscape of the 21st Century, the fair references a 17th-century Korean musical genre. The exhibition promises a diverse array of artists, whose work will be introduced by an opera during the fair’s opening. The complete list of participating artists can be found on the fair’s official website.
