A rule of the General Customs of the Republic, published in the Official Gazette No. 16 Unique in 2023 in Cuba, allows the import of mopeds or electric motorcycles, as well as electric motors and their accessories.
All the official information from the Cuban Customs about this issue can be found in Resolution 28 of 2023, which opens the doors to the import of electric mopeds and motorcycles, as well as electric motors and their accessories.
According to the text, through Decree 83, Cuban and foreign natural persons living in the country can directly import these vehicles without commercial purposes. This includes mopeds and motorcycles with up to two seats, and up to three seats if there is a sidecar.
In addition, the import of electric motors and their accessories is allowed for the replacement or repowering of vehicles with internal combustion engines, and their conversion to electricity.
Import of mopeds and electric motorcycles in Cuba by 2024
In order to update the regulations, Resolution 175, of July 23, 2022, of the Head of the General Customs of the Republic, was modified in relation to Chapter 8-Motor vehicles, their parts and accessories.
Therefore, the existing provisions are interpreted as follows:
- Cuban Customs allows, as part of passengers’ luggage, the importation of up to two (2) items of so-called mopeds or motorcycles, with or without sidecar, in both electric cases, provided they have no other additional carrying capacity. .and access.
- Natural persons may import by sending up to one (1) item of so-called mopeds or motorcycles, in both cases electric, with or without sidecar.
- Passengers may import, as part of their baggage, up to one (1) set consisting of one (1) electric motor and its accessories, as a replacement, for repowering the combustion engine vehicles and their conversion to electric ones, according to the procedure established for that operation.
