Indian woman wins top Canadian scholarship worth Rs 2

Abu Dhabi: An Indian girl living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has won a Lester B. Pearson Scholarship for International Students from the University of Toronto, Canada, worth more than AED 1 million (Rs 2,14,94,966).

Candace Sara Ciju, a former student at GEMS United Indian School in Abu Dhabi, has been selected as the top 5 out of 37 scholarship recipients worldwide.

The Canadian Scholarship fully pays the tuition, accommodation, meals, books, stationery, health insurance, miscellaneous expenses, etc. during the four-year undergraduate study at Candace University.

“I am ecstatic and very grateful to have been selected as a Pearson Scholar this year by the University of Toronto, Canada’s No. 1 university and consistently ranked in the top 10 public universities in the world in all major rankings,” Candace told Gulf News.

Candace is an avid writer and debater who has received prestigious awards such as the Sheikh Hamdan Award, the Sharjah Award and the Sheikha Fatima Award.

Candace also launched the Book Reuse Campaign in 2012 to collect used books in good condition for reuse by others. To date, the initiative has collected more than 11,000 books.
