UAE banks records 8% higher investments in debt securities

UAE – Mubasher: The UAE banks’ total investments in debt securities jumped by 8.2% to AED 274.5 billion in January 2021 from AED 253.7 billion in the same month of 2020.

The total investment of UAE banks in equities declined by 12.1% to AED 9.4 billion in January 2021 from AED 10.7 billion in January 2019, according to the latest data by the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE).

Meanwhile, the UAE banks invested AED 150.7 billion in held-to-maturity securities in the first month of 2021, up 51.5% from AED 99.5 billion in the year-ago period.

The total investments of the UAE banks amounted to AED 478.9 billion in January 2021, up 16.2% year-on-year (YoY) from AED 412.2 billion.
