UAE launches bid to attract global workers with remote residency scheme

The UAE has announced the introduction of a residence permit for remote workers.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, announced that the introduction of the new residency permit means that “any employee anywhere in the world can reside in the UAE to practice work remotely even if the company is not present in the country”.

The UAE decision comes at a time where work from home has increased due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as more and more workers have the flexibility to work from home.

Sheikh Mohammed said in a tweet that the message of the UAE is clear: “development is continuous, change will not stop.. our teams continue day and night to consolidate our international economic and political position and establish a quality of life that is the best in the world for our people and all those residing here”.

The cabinet approved a raft of economic measures, in addition to approving the UAE joining the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the New Development Bank of Brics

Sheikh Mohammed explained that “with remote work technologies today, we provide an opportunity for everyone to live in the most beautiful and safe cities in the world”.

Furthermore, the UAE government has announced that will adopt multi-entry tourist visas for all nationalities, easing travel to the country.

Sheikh Mohammed said “The UAE is a global economic capital .. and all our decisions will be based on this vision”
