Sharjah has reduced tariffs on taxis after petrol and diesel prices in the UAE fell in August.

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) customer service hotline agent has confirmed that the minimum fare for taxis has been reduced from AED17.50 to AED15.50.

Taxi drivers using the SRTA service on August 6 also confirmed the drop in minimum fares.

Last month, the minimum fare was raised from Dh13.50 to Dh17.50 after the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) said it would set monthly taxi fares based on the latest fuel prices in the country.

The decision was made by the Sharjah Executive Committee and implemented by the SRTA. SRTA Chairman Youssef Khamis Al Othmani said that the revision is based on the principle of liberalizing fuel prices, and the metered electricity price will be adjusted according to the fuel price approved by the Ministry of Energy. .

Super 98 petrol was priced at AED 4.03 per litre in August compared to AED 4.63 in July, while Special 95 petrol was priced at AED 3.92 per litre compared to AED 4.52 in July.
